Arfa Karim, the legend we forgot

196712_10151404229257931_624340436_nOne year back, on 14th January 2012, a bright light which enlightened the entire Pakistan with it’s endless intelligence and childhood maturity, faded away and ended Pakistanis up with wet eyes and heavy hearts.

This Pride of Pakistan was born on 2nd February 1995 as a gift to the nation. 9 years after her birth, in 2004 , she became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional and became the pride of Pakistan. The girl who was born in Chak No. 4JB Ram Dewali in Faisalabad was then invited by Bill Gates to visit the Microsoft Headquarters in the USA.

She gave various interviews and represented Pakistan at many different forums. On 2 August 2005, Arfa Abdul Karim was presented the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of Science and Technology by the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Azeez on the occasion of 113th birth anniversary of Fatimah Jinnah.

In 2011, when Arfa was 16, she suffered a cardiac arrest after an epileptic seizure which greatly damaged her mind and was admitted to the hospital in a critical state where she lost the tug of war between life and death and took off from the world.

This beauty and Pride of Pakistan’s first Death Anniversary is not even acknowledged by many in Pakistan and unfortunately many have long forgotten her. She practically created a positive image of Pakistan in the world and did her best in making a better position of Pakistan in the world of technology but what a pity! We are worshiping those who did nothing but wrote a diary but the one who did something for Pakistan has been ignored.

Rest in Peace Arfa Kareem.

I am a 19 year old student who works as a blogger and RJ on web radios mostly. Writing is my passion and of course my skill so I try to use it up as much as I can. Bringing awareness among the people is what I love and I have planned to choose it my profession.

Just found this article and I have to say that I totally agree with what is written in this article. Although I also feel that for a girl like Malala to write a diary and voice her opinions in such a village where education and women are not encouraged is a big thing for the kind of place in Pakistan she is from. And we must also remember that the hatred against Malala is not because of her but because of all the media hype and all the attention Westerners are giving to the matter, simply because of it being an issue against Taliban.

We must remember that she is just an innocent child with a vision for education. We must also not forget that where Arifa had opportunities all around her, Malala did not. And who knows what Malala would have done if she would have been in the place of Arifa. Although I realise that Arifa was unique and many in her place would not have even thought of the kind of things Arifa managed to do. And we must as a Pakistani and a Muslim always support Pakistanis (whoever they may be) and Muslim brothers like other countries always promote their own people and identity. Unity is what is lacking in Pakistan and the Muslim ummah.

Coming back to Arifa Karim, I have always been inspired by her and Malala cannot be compared with her because her achievement is of a different kind. I believe that Arifa’s talent and intelligence was an inborn gift given to her by Allah so that she could create a ray of hope and inspiration for Pakistan and Pakistanis. For those who realise her true worth still remember her and are inspired by her, like me. She had a vision for a better and more progressive Pakistan and I hope someone else is able to make her and many other Pakistanis’ dream come true. Words are not needed for Karim because she was a true genius and a genius does not need words or recognition to prove his or her worth. Allah knows her achievement and that is enough and may Allah provide others with this talent and vision that Arifa had so that Pakistan can become a better place
